Background

The jobs of the future are likely to require new skills that are harder to come by in communities where opportunities are lacking. This is particularly true for rural areas, where access to quality education remains a challenge. PwC China is contributing to these areas so that they can respond to their specific local needs now and in the future. Together, we engage with young people and charity partners to help create the right conditions that enable youth to access opportunities more equitably.

Impact and outcomes

Launched in 2009, the PwC Rural School Volunteer Programme has seen more than 800 PwC volunteers dedicate over 30,800 hours to educating and inspiring the next generation. This commitment has reached 27,760 students across 40 rural schools in China, providing them with academic knowledge and the life skills necessary for holistic development. The programme's impact extends beyond the classroom. It addresses the critical need for career planning and emotional management skills, which are essential for personal growth and resilience in the face of future challenges. By equipping students with these tools, the programme helps children equip themselves for more holistic development and face future challenges with greater confidence and wisdom.

A key aspect of the Rural School Volunteer Programme is its emphasis on cultivating curiosity and aspiration. PwC volunteers act as facilitators, introducing students to explore opportunities that exist beyond the classroom. This approach is essential for fostering a generation of innovators and leaders who will drive progress in their communities.

“PwC's Rural School Volunteer Programme has not just been sustained; it has significantly enhanced its impact. This progress is rooted in our deep belief and unwavering dedication to empower the young generations. Thank you to every PwC volunteer and our charity partners who are committed to fostering education equity. Your contributions reinforce our belief that, with ongoing engagement and collaborative efforts, we can make a difference to rural children.”
