Pathways towards sustainable cities: The progress of Hong Kong SAR and Shanghai

By 2050, 70% of the world's population will live in urban areas, making cities a huge part of our future. As urbanisation in China speeds up, its cities are on the front lines of the growing physical risks of climate change.

We have identified four broad pathways cities can follow to meet the needs of a more sustainable future and how Hong Kong and Shanghai are on these pathways. The efforts of Hong Kong and Shanghai, and other cities in China, will continue to shed light on the future of sustainability in China.
