China: Pilot scheme for new work permit cards

The State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs ("SAFEA") recently announced major changes affecting the work permit applications for certain foreign individuals coming to work in China. Under the new arrangement, SAFEA will issue the Work Permit Cards to replace the existing Foreign Expert Certificates and Alien Employment Permits.

The new arrangement will be implemented in some pilot cities (including Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, Shanghai, Anhui, Shandong, Guangdong, Sichuan, Ningxia) during the period from October 2016 to March 2017 (the "New Pilot Scheme") and will be rolled out across the nation in April 2017.
